UK and Eire: Science

I am intrigued by many of the discoveries and inventions that sprang from the UK & Eire. (How these discoveries and inventions were sometimes utilised is another matter.)

My favourites include the Theory of Evolution, Jethro Tull's seed drill, the postal system and postage stamps, Sir Tim Berners-Lee's World Wide Web, steam engines and steam powered contraptions, bicycles, light bulbs, the sandwich, rubber bands, stainless steel, clinical thermometers, the discovery of vitamins, penicillin and infrared radiation, stereoscopes, barometers, Newton's Laws of Motion, seismographs, the Periodic Table, penny-farthings, lifeboats, Universal Standard Time, daylight saving time, driving on the left, macadam road surfaces, pneumatic tyres, radio, telephone, television, fountain pens, kaleidoscopes, the Bank of England, the Beaufort Scale, spiral galaxies...
