The bitterbynde is one of the best series ive ever read! Ive not read the lord of the rings so i cannot comment on everyone comparing the trilogies but personally i think the bitterbynde will far excell Tolkein's work.
My sister and i were having a heated debate about the release dates of the books; my mother and i picked up the 1st book on the same day as the second came to the bookstore we bought it from. We bought the book just before New Years Eve, i think it was the 29th of december, but the release date was for January.
I was hoping that because we got the second one early we might get the third early ?????? pleeeeeeeeeease :)
Oh and is Thorn the fair folk's high king in lesser form???

Dear Ms Dart Thornton,
My name is Jaki and I and I just turned 13, for my b'day my dad got me your book, The ill-Made Mute. Being 13 and even though I read a lot I'm still basically a learner when it comes to judging books, but your book is the best i have read in a while. As i was reading i noticed i got increasingly dismayed when the pages whittled down to 1! but about two days after i finish reading and re-reading your book, I went and got the second book which was if not the same quality, Better than the first! and i thought that was hard to beat. I would just like to mention one of the things I loved and hated (at the same time) about your style of writing, this is your majorly annoying ability to keep people in suspense! some writers do it subtley but you do it with a difference, you finish you book on the biggest climax possible and I love and hate that for some reason?! The biggest suspense so far in the trilogy though, is waiting for the 3rd edition to this inexplicably excellent trilogy!
But in the meantime, I have told all my novel loving friends about your amazing books and i'm sure they will share my feeling of being trapped in your exquisite web of exciting adventure!
Thanx 4 reading this
from ur most anxious fan Jaki!
ps: I would be ecstatic i u could find the time to reply, but if you can't it's ok.
thanx!

Just a quick note of appreciation for two wonderful books that have placed me in a delicious predicament. On the one hand I couldn't read them fast enough to find out what would happen next. On the other hand I didn't want to finish them either - I wanted the enchantment to go on and on.! But now that I have finished them, I cannot wait for the next installment so that I can face this wonderful dilemma all over again.
Your writing is so truly evocative and poetic - you have a fantastic gift. I'm sure we all look forward to seeing much more from you in the years to come!

From the moment I opened your books I was hooked. Erith became a real
place to me and Imrhien/Rohain/Ashalind was like a best friend. We were side by side and I experienced her joy, fear, pain, sorrow, love, and heartache along side her. Now that I have finished, I feel as though something is missing. I eagerly await the release of your next book. Congratulations on writing the best read I've had in along time.

Hi,
No, don't worry, this isn't an email asking how to become published or anything like that. I just finished your book, the Ill Made Mute (which i completely enjoyed), and i was just mad curious as to what the second book is going to be about. I plan on getting it as soon as it comes out. I just want to tell you that i loved the book, not only because of how innocent our Mute was, but also the fact that there was no premarital sex involved, a lot of fantasy has a lot of sex as i have discovered throughout my reading and i just love the fact that yours does not. Thank you. Anyway, i know you don't have a lot of time on your hands due to all your hobbies and writing, so i won't be dissapointed if i don't get a reply rigth away. But thank you for reading this and thank you again for your story. Sincerely,
A Fan

A month ago I would not have believed when I started reading your first book, that you could draw me into this drama of myths and legends, you make your words sing!!! Usually my reading leans towards autobiographies, never believing fantasy could be as interesting as reality - how wrong was I, and I thank you for convincing me otherwise.

How wonderful to live in an age and country when books are freely available to all. I cannot say more than the critics have already but add me to your growing legion of fans. Your writing stands out – no matter which genre. I’ve loved books since I could read but can only count on my hands how many have truly got me in. Tolkien was also a mind blower when I was around 9 but so many other fantasy books are formulaic.
The Ill Made Mute and Lady of the sorrows are so beautifully written that I can see Erith and the wonderful characters that inhabit this world – whether they be good or villainous. Can’t wait for the next book, hopefully we’ll see some of those villains back again they do make a story so readable! I have some of my own theories from various clues you’ve scattered through the first two books but I guess I’ll have to wait another year to find out…..
Keep writing, I think your books are fantastic and I love the strong role model for women…. How refreshing.

Dear Ms Dart-Thornton,
My name is Ben. I love books. more than anything else ever. i read all the time never without a book. Most of all, i love fantasy books. i get different fantasy books every week from where ever i can. after reading many many books on my holidays i came across the "ill made mute". i couldnt put it down, it was more addictive than harry potter. i then read "the lady of sorrows" if anything it was better. what people say about the tolkien style is true. when i saw that you had already written "the battle of overnight" i was overjoyed then i found out it would not come out until 2003 i was then unhappy. after i had this idea of writing to you. please (and i would beg alot more but it would bore you) may i get a copy of the third book early. maight you email it to me or i would happily pay more than double the retail price and the postal cost if u sent me a manurscript. i cant wait for your third book i really want to read it. i cant sleep at night for wondering what will happen in the third book with ashalind and thorn or how she reawakens the faeran king. even if you dont send me a copy which would be very dissappointing, might you just send me a reply.
your biggest fan always
ben

Date: Sat, 12 Jan 2002 05:12:40 Dear Cecilia,
I like many readers in Australia have just finished reading the Lady of the Sorrows. Towards the end of the book I was dismayed that there were not so many pages left to turn before the end of this segment of your saga. I am devastated that a whole year must pass until the third installment and conclusion to your fantastic trilogy. I suppose there's no chance of getting the publishing date brought forward to this year? I too like other readers have many unanswered questions and can only guess how this wonderful story will end. Thankyou for an enthralling story that allows me to escape from the nonsensical world we live in.
Cheers

To: dartthornton@yahoo.co.ukDear Miss Dart-Thornton, I just finished reading Lady of the Sorrows. I'm so glad that i discovered your works last year, the Bitterbynde trilogy is really exciting! I especially liked the Faeran and sea-wights tales, not to mentioin the little bit of romance. :) And the Love Song of Severnesse. :)I tried to guess what Imrhien-Rohain's past might have been at the end of the Ill-Made Mute but wow, it's truly nothing like i imagined. :)) 2003 now seems so far away! Is there a possibility it could be published earlier than that in Australia? I know the Bitterbynde trilogy is already completed but i do wish they can "sciobtha" the publication! :)
Thank you once again for a great book.

Date: Wed, 9 Jan 2002 15:38:13 +1000 Hi,
I want to say how much I enjoy reading 'The Lady of Sorrows' I could not put it down. Consequently I finish reading this book at 1 am in the morning. I am now waiting for other book, wanting it now. I just don't know how I will wait for this. So I am stuck within my imagination, I think about how you will end it and I hope it will be a happy ever after. But how can this be? Why didn't she go to dust? Doesn't she have to go back through the gate? How can she stay with Thorn? Is Thorn that perfect or is he something else? Don't get me wrong, I love Thorn, I love her and their love story, please let them be together, ever if it is after a long hard struggle. I like reading to escape the reality of my world.

I am writing to do as so many others have already done - congratulate you on the brilliance of your writing. I have just finished The Lady of the Sorrows for the second time (I work in a bookstore and bought a copy the moment after they were unpacked) and am impatiently chomping at the bit for The Battle of Evernight (although my Australian first edition paperback of The Ill-Made Mute assures me the title is The Eagle and the Raven). Why superior films and novels insist on a year between each release (think The Lord of the Rings movies) is beyond me - surely the devoted public don't deserve the anxiety brought on by the long (too long) wait! I can't wait for Book Three - I have some Thorn/Morrigan (is that how you spell it? I don't have my copy with me) parallels that I would like to see either verified or blown to pieces, and wish to see the other loose ends neatly tied up. Thank you, thank you for showing me that the fantasy genre is not merely a tired collection of goblins, wizards and magic, but is instead what it was always intended to be - an escape from reality, a chance to live vicariously in worlds far removed from our own with characters as real and different as our imagination will let them be. I salute you, Queen-Empress of Fantasy.

Dear Ms Dart-Thornton,
I could not believe my luck when holidaying in Adelaide, I saw the long-awaited second book of your Bitterbynde Trilogy on the shelf in Borders Bookstore. What Luck!! I bought it and immediately began to devour the pages, reading through the day and night only to be left hanging in suspense at the end and realising with dismay that I will have to wait another year for the story to continue!! What a cruel woman you are to not write faster!! I sincerely hope you will suffer no distractions through this year and that your hand will fly as you write so that I may quickly find relief from the torture of not knowing what will happen next! Purely selfish I know, but it can't be helped, it is almost like the need to be released from a bitterbynde.
I wish you all the best as an author and look forward to reading more of your work (as soon as possible, if you please).
Yours sincerely,
Tania Tamao'tai

In all honesty i feel words cannot begin to describe how enthralling your books were and i truly hope that you will continue to write more books after completing this trilogy! i loved your site and i thought that the "Separated by Time" song was the best.
i look foward to reading the thrid book, but hopefully not the final!
