well well well what can one say when they are as imrhen was, speechless. There are not the words within myself to express how this trilogy has blown me away! I can't get enough!! and how can I wait until november for book 3,theres only one thing for it and that is to re-read again starting at book 1...........like tolkein celia, we can read and re-read and pick up things we missed out the first time. You are unbelievable to be able to go into a world and make it so real, a world that so many of us can touch on from the fairy tales we knew as children and the fantsays we float into to escape this real world we slave too.
I am sure you could turn the childrens literacy world upside down too, have you considered amongst your many dreams for future projects writing childrens tales based on your characters from the trilogy a prologue to when they are old enough to read the real thing!
Make sure you visit Tasmania sometime, so we can catch up.......

Subject: A Most Brilliant Trilogy!
I must truly say that I have highly enjoyed your first two books of the Bitterbynde Trilogy. I eagerly await the third installment but alas, that is but a year away! I shall be counting down the days!! I love this trilogy and think very highly of it. I only hope that others will get the chance to enjoy it as much as I have the first two. You are a truly exceptional and an inspirational author and I can only hope that perhaps one day I might arrive at the level of writing as you have. Wish me luck! Yet, I am only a high school student! I can't wait to read The Battle of Evernight and I know that it will be just as good or even more so stunningly written!
Much love and praise,

All I have to say is...I love your Bitterbynde Trilogy. I just got the Lady of Sorrows, and I read it in a day. I have to say that your trilogy is the only trilogy I plan to get all in hardcover, I tend to like to wait until books come in paperback. But the Bitterbynde trilogy is worth the cost. I can't wait until The Battle of Evernight is released, until then I'll be waiting in suspense for what will come next.

Hi! My name is Barbara, I live in Brisbane, and I am a huge fan of your works. I really can't wait until November when the third book gets released- I am hardly getting any sleep these days! Anyway, I was just wondering how old you pictured Imrhien/Rohain to be. I was thinking around 15 or 16 but when I was talking to one of my friends who has also read the books, she appeared to think of her as around 25! Could you settle this please? I think you have a real gift for writing and would just like to thank you for letting me and all the other readers into your world.
Yours Sincerely, Barbara.

I don't know if I can wait until I get The Lady of the Sorrows. It is out isn't it?! I hope to god it's in the store...Thank you so much for writing this book and the next and the next! I can't wait to read them all!

Hello,
My name is Caroline and I started reading your books in Jan 2002. We bought your book bacause we needed some new books because we were going on holidays and i like to read while I am on holies!! My 14th birthday is coming up in 11 days.
Since I was 11 I have been reading Anne McCaffery's dragonrider series and I have read basically all of them several times and I didn't think that any books could ever come up to her standards so I was reluctant to read any thing else. But i read the first chapter of The Ill-Made Mute and I fell in love with the characters. It was the best book I had ever read! I read the book and then gobbled up the next. So within 2 or 3 days I was dieing to get the next one. And then I i found out the terrible news.... I had to wait about a year!! I was devastated! But i have since read the books several times and i have learned to cope.
As soon as the 3rd book comes out I will be the first to get it!

I would like to thank you Miss Thornton, for I am writing a novel myself and felt deep within me that something was missing. Upon arriving at my local bookstore and browsing the shelves, my hand happened to graze the cover of your magnificient first book. I opened it, and read only the first sentence. From then, until the very end, I was captivated. Then, a few days later as I sat in front of my computer monitor pondering the meaning behind my own story, and what was lacking, I found it. The rich descriptions, folklore, and unusual characters of your story were masterfully weaved, and brought my own story out from the bowels of my imagination. I owe you my story and thanks, for you have brought out the story teller in me.

Celia,
Congratulations on a tremendous success mo gaidair. I just finished "The Ill-Made Mute" after receiving it for my birthday two days ago. I must confess when people make gifts of books to me, I cringe, and dread to think how I will politely tell them "thank you for the gift do you mind if I return it?" The saving grace here was I had picked your book up a number of occasions. No such problem with The BitterBynde. I am particular in my tastes and can safely say you have me hooked. After reading the other guestbook comments I don't know if it's wise to torture myself and rush to read "The lady of Sorrows" only to wait seven months for the third in the series. 'ae well aa guess 'tis 't drive me scothy.

I picked up your book The Ill-Made Mute almost by accident in the bookstore the other day-- because the main character used sign language and it is so hard to find characters who sign in English literature. I loved both the character and the story so much I am sure I will be looking for the next book when I go to the store next.

After complaining to my sister that I had nothing to read she lent me 'The Ill-Made Mute" and I have to tell you I was utterly hooked...! I read that within a day, and eagerly snatched 'The Lady of Sorrows' out of her hands when she offered it to me.. a couple of hours later I barely surfaced long enough for a drink and toilet break... I have finished 'The Lady of Sorrows' now.. and I am craving more .. I am not even sure if I can wait until November for the next one to be released.. I really think I need another good dose of Thorn sooner than later.. (hint hint)

The Ill-Made Mute is now one of my most favourite books ever. It just shouts to be bought, along with the rest of the books I want (which means no pocket money for months!). And the rest of the trilogy will end up bought if I have enough money!

I have just completed your second wonderful fantasy and cannot (well please don't make me) wait until 2003 for the next. I have read the other messages regarding your books and was surprised at the huge age variance, it is wonderful these books appeal to so many. I am a 40 year old working mother of two and the escape to the wonderful world of Aia was truly better than any other stress relief I have tried. I grew up with the "Folk of the Faraway Tree", loved the Tolkien series but I really must say these books have become my favourite (maybe because of that touch of Romance).
As I don't know of any High Kings nearby, therefore no one to cure me of my langothe, please don't make me wait until 2003, I may pine away...

Just writing to congratulate you, once again, on another achievement.
The Ill-Made Mute literally, well, figuratively anyway, knocked my socks off, and i devoured The Lady of the Sorrows, this time literally, in one night.
Took the book with me from Australia to Stockholm, just so that i could re-read the descriptions of Thorn. Anxiously awaiting the Battle of Evernight. Is it possible to get my hands on a promotional preview??? Reading the Lady of the Sorrows, i get the feeling that there is going to be a rather large shoe dropped ... things seem to be going just a little bit too well for Imrhien ... . Am cursing myself for falling prey to the fantasy lovers eternal lament ... reading the second book before the third one comes out.
Sigh.

The Bitterbynde books are brilliant, Cecilia. The Ill-Made Mute and the Lady of the Sorrows are beautifully spun tales that shall become a masterpiece of the modern times.
I fell in love with the characters and the story from the moment i saw it in the bookshop and picked it up. I love the books and please do keep writing.
I stayed up late into the night reading beacuse they were too suspenseful and exciting to put down, not to mention irresistably wonderful to read. Out of all the books i have read by... Tamora Pierce, Emily Rodda, Isobelle Carmody, Phillip Pullman... yours beat them all. I loved the Ill-Made Mute and Lady of the Sorrows way better than Harry Potter. (Oh, and the romance in them added a special sprinkle of magic to the story.)
I can simply not wait untill 2003 for the Battle of Evernight to be released so please put it in the shops early.
I declare "The Bitterbynde are my most favourite books ever."
If you write any more books please make them fantasy... (not science fiction) and in another world than ours. You have a strength at writing about magic.
I recommend this book to young and old (and 12/13 year olds, like me) but before you start have a good sleep because once you start you'll be up all night reading.

Hi
Regretfully I have once again fallen into the trap of purchasing the first book of an incomplete series. I have just finished reading the Ill-Made Mute and was enchanted. The emotions were so real and the imagery painted fantastic pictures in my imagination. I myself fell in love with Thorn!
I love the Australian touches. I think it is wonderful the growing numbers of Australian Fantasy authers and congratulate you on a brilliant series. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
I do have some critisism however. I was frustrated that your map did not show the places visited such as Isse tower (I assume it is somewhere in Isse Harbor), Waterstair, Mirrinor, etc. I understand however that it is difficult to put a lot of detail in such a small area.
I also feel you must be careful where you place your Australian flora. Keep in mind where you would find them in Australia and don't fall into the trap of putting any old tree in just because it is Australian. Acacia's for instance are pioneer plants and are generally not found in forests except in areas of major disturbance.
Anyway I do love your book. Keep writing.
Sandy :)

I recently got "The Lady of the sorrows" and I am half way through it, I must say I am thoroughly enjoying it also. I was practically the frist person in my town that bought it and I made a good job promoting it to my friends and family. At present I am reading "Lady of the Sorrows" and man all I can say is "WOW!". And I thought that Harry Potter was cool - I was totally wrong. Even though it took me a while to read the first one, I am reading the second one at one-hundred miles and hour and twenty pages a minute. I hope that a movie is a future for a fantasy as magnificent as this. And may I say... "There is never someone too young or old to read the Bitterbynde trilogy!" Keep the books coming! My grandmother bought me "The Illmade Mute". I read the book and was immediately impressed! I've read fantasy since I started on Enid Blyton (I'm slightly embarassed to admit) at the age of 6. The thing that I was so amazed at was its complete originality. I can still love a book even if it is a variation on a theme, but this was completely original and obviously a classic in the making. In each of the first two books there was a twist that I never saw coming, even though I usually predict storylines of books/movies etc. as I read/watch.
I am proud that it was written by a fellow Australian.
Jodie
PS. It is rather frustrating to know that the third book is written but not released yet. I prefer to think it is still being written!

First of all, I would like to do as so many already have and thank you for writing such wonderful books. They are truly a great gift to the world of literature. I finally got around to reading The Ill-Made Mute over the summer holidays and trust me, I was in awe. It thus goes without saying that I was ecstatic at discovering The Lady of the Sorrows out early at my favourite book store. I wasted no time in purchasing and reading this book and now eagerly await the follow-up. Any chance of an early release???
To change the topic, I must say that your music is truly class work.
Following the request on your website for input concerning a favourite track, mine is Separated by Time. At first the alternative arrangement appealed to me more than the first one, but now the first arrangement would have to be my choice. The song is a relevant one me. The lyrics are meaningful. As the song says, it seems as though somehow "you wrote for me". I thankyou immensely for this song. It is understanding, and has been on high rotation at home over the last two weeks. The line "you were meant for me" does scare me a little though. It just sounds too possessive. The mutuality is lost.
It is not like "we were meant to be". Just a thought.
Well, thankyou for you time. Your work is much appreciated and I'm sure it will by cherished by many.Regards,Salim Moeladawilah.

Subject: Praise for The Bitterbynde TrilogyDear Ms Dart-Thornton,
Congratulations on writing two of the most brilliant and enjoyable fantasy books I have had the pleasure to read. I first heard of "The Ill-Made Mute" on the Australian Channel Nine's "Today Show", a breakfast show, sometime earlier in 2001. Suitably impressed by the reviews, I had planned to get and read your book as soon as it was released. However, it wasn't until the lull of the post Christmas holidays of 2001 that I eventually ventured into my local bookstore and picked it up. And was I ever glad that I did! I completed "the Mute" in record time - even my husband was surprised at how I could not put it down, and stayed up into the wee hours of the night, entranced by Imrhien's tale. As soon as I finished "the Mute", I rushed to the bookstore hoping to find the "The Lady of the Sorrows", and fortunately, it had just been released (in Perth, W. Australia). I was in Heaven! Needless to say, the second book I completed in again a short period of time, after which I felt an overwhelming sense of void - how am I to find another book to follow these two until you release the third? I am afraid to say that I am suffering something akin to the "langothe", for the world of Imrhien/Rohain/Ashalind is now to me as the Fair Realm must be to the Erithians.
Thank you again for opening up the fantasy genre to me; not since reading Tolkien and Victor Kelleher as a 13 year old have I again ventured into this world, until now.
Please do not ever stop writing.
Yours sincerely,
Dr Cherynne Johansson.

As a Melbourne girl I was thrilled to start reading your books, in the quest to ensure that I read more Australian authors. Your first book was fabulous. I was captured by the style of writing, and refuse to compare it with any other books, enjoying the book for what it is.
Excitedly, I was able to buy the second book, and spent the whole day in bed today (sunday) finishing it. thankfully the awful so called summer weather we're seeing in Melbourne today gave me the wonderful excuse not to do anything except enjoy your story.
I loved it! Well done! I can't wait for the third, and am left ill at ease knowing I'll have no closure until the third is released next year. I have no doubt that we'll see these books hit the big screens.

Hi Cecilia,
I read The Ill Made- Mute about three months ago, and I loved it.
I thought I'd have to wait till August( I think that's what it said in the Ill Made Mute) till the Lady of the Sorrows came out, but on the 18th January I was going to Surface Paradise and saw the Lady of the Sorrows at the book shop, which I was very happy about.
They are both fantastic books I couldn't put them down, although I had to for The Lady of the Sorrows because I was on Holidays & had to enjoy them. Anyway just wondering if the Battle of Evernight will be coming into store earlier or not. Please say yes I can't wait till 2003, it's just to far away.
If not are there any other books you could recommend apart from the Lord of the Rings because I have already read that as well as the Hobbit.
Look forward to your replay
All the best

I am sure you cannot reply to all the emails you receive - but I would love it if you did!

And I (like you I'm sure!) receive several emails a day on how to become a published writer. (I have no idea, I just do it and life takes care of itself really!) anyway, I would love to send you my CD - I have a radio single coming out this year, but its mainly because I appreciate your gift and would like to sendyou something in appreciation.
I am also going to try to come to your book singing in Melbourne Feb 8th. I'm not a physcho and I have getting emails like this myself - but nothings lost when words are spoken in truth!
Once again thanks again for two amazing books!
